Why Don’t We Value Our Health?
If I were to ask you to take a minute and think about the most valuable thing in life, how would you respond? Well, most people respond with the 4 F’s; family, friendships, fitness and of course, finances. Let’s go deeper: how would you rank them?
Now, one thing that we take for granted and leave off of the list of the most valuable priorities in our life is our health. I want to share with you the notion that without a healthy lifestyle, without a healthy body, it doesn’t matter how much money you have. When you’re in the grave it does not matter.

The time you have is worthless if you’re not healthy enough to enjoy it. We tend to list our families & friends as the most important values we have and that can be true. But studies show that 50 percent of married people get divorced. For some reason, we tend to prioritize everything BUT our health — the one thing we are assured to have for a lifetime. We have to ask
Babe Ruth once said that “If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of my body”. What does this mean? It’s simple, health has a bigger impact on our lives than we realize.
It’s on us to recognize where we are with our health. Once we understand our current status, we have to figure out how can we create consistent healthy habits. The question you must ask yourself is: “How can your health be your biggest asset?” I have seven steps that you can do to get started on your journey toward life as a wellness CHAMP.
7 Steps To Becoming A Wellness Champ
1) Figure Out Where You Are
Whether it’s a diet, weight or other complications, most times people lie to themselves about their health status. The easiest way to get started on your journey is by coming clean and getting an exact depiction of where you are on your health journey.
2) Change Your Self Talk
You would be surprised at how much positive self-talk can help you stick to your plans and build habits of success. Once you understand where you are and where you need to go, changing your inner dialogue is the most important thing you can do to put yourself on a path to active wellness. Mental health is just as important as physical vitality, so be sure to take the time to set yourself straight mentally at various points throughout your day.
3) Schedule Doctor’s Visits
Once you have a pulse on your health status, the next step is monitoring it consistently. Scheduled visits to your doctor and talk freely with him about your health. For one reason or another, doctors are the people we avoid the most. We don’t make regular appointments. Some even live with chronic pain, avoiding the hospital at all costs. What we fail to realize is that when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, they are the ones we need the most. If you’re a woman, I’m sure you don’t miss your hair appointments. We must focus on your health & meetings with your doctor in the same way. Men, we have to take better care of ourselves.
4) Add Exercise
If health is wealth, then you’ve got to get your daily dose. I hosted a webinar on creating a “Champion’s Morning” this past week (check it out) and that morning is an exercise routine. So definitely check that out but add exercise into your daily routine.
5) Build Healthy Habits
Next thing, increasing healthy eating. Obviously, we all know what we should and should not eat but let’s make it a priority. We do that by being intentional, by meal prepping let’s get that done because health has to be a priority. If you smoke or drink let’s limit that. I’m not going to tell you how to enjoy your life and I myself partake in adult beverages here and there, so I cannot judge you. But, studies do show that people who do typically have a shorter lifespan. While I do enjoy the occasional adult beverage, I understand all my other numbers are in control. Which gives me the flexibility to be able to do that.
6) Take Your Medication
Lastly, make sure you take your medication as prescribed. So many of us are on different medications or we should be. Yet we don’t take them or we don’t get them filled or we don’t follow through.
7) Get Rid Of Excuses
I know you’re in pain, you’re hurt but there is something you can do – in any situation. Swim, bike. There is a way. You MUST find it. No excuses. Let’s get it done. Remember what they say, “Excuses are tools of incompetence used to build monuments of nothing.”
In order to be a champion, you can’t pour from an empty cup. So you have to take care of yourself first and a huge part of taking care of yourself is making your health the biggest priority. The first step to living a #ChampionshipLifestyle is becoming a wellness champ.
