Weekend Getaway: My Best Friend.

What’s going on #TeamBrackett & friends!!!

After I had some productive meetings in LA I snuck away for a getaway with my best friend for some R&R(&R) in Laguna Beach. When I talk about my best friend, I’m talking about my wife. She is single handled one of the best decisions I made in my life. At times people get so caught up in the rapture that they miss out on a blessing and a life partner because they don’t check the boxes of what they truly need out of a person, a friend, a confidant, a partner.

July 17 will make our 8 year anniversary, and even though we’ve had a few ups and downs (what relationship doesn’t eb & flow), I’ve never regretted the fact that I married my best friend.

We met in Indianapolis and starting dating after my championship season with the Colts. I’ll admit it off the bat: I was not actively looking to settle down when we met. When I got to know her, she mesmerized me with the qualities I truly value in a partner– in my best friend. I’ve been under her spell ever since. She is caring, intelligent and ambitious- truly the person anyone in my position needs. To me she appeared not a moment later than I needed her to. She was in school for medicine and I knew I had a long road ahead of us, but I also knew watching her grow would be (and has been) an experience I will cherish forever. Her class and grace captured my attention in Year 1, and the coming arrival of our firstborn sealed the deal: I knew that I couldn’t resist having her by my side forever.

We have 3 children together. She finished her career in academia a little less than a year ago: 4 years of medical school, 2 years in an MBA and a 3 Residency to cap off the experience. Seeing how hard she work to get here and how my kids view her & her journey is awe-inspiring

People marry for every reason under the sun, yet sometimes we forget to rekindle what made us fall in love after the hectic grind of our calendars and goal seeking. I’m blessed to spend this short but eventful with my best friend on a beach–it’s a little mini paradise for us. Walks on the beach, morning jogs, exploration though the caves of Laguna and great meals make me so grateful for our time together, but also reflective of how we got here. And it’s been a beautiful climb indeed…

Cherish the one you love, and when you get the chance never hesitate on the opportunity rekindle the love that brought you together. Reflecting on the climb makes the view at the top of the mountain that much sweeter. More importantly, it allows you to create new climbs to conquer together.

I’m GB and I hope we all make it
