2019’s Name Of The Game: Uplift Others

2019 is here and I’m excited. It’s the New Year and of course, everyone is setting resolutions and sharing them left and right on social media. I’m not fond of the exercise personally. Instead, at the beginning of every year, I like to create vision boards. It’s an exhilarating exercise every time. I feel like success is about visualizing yourself and your situation before you actually experience it. That’s where practice and repetition come in to play. If Gladwell is correct about his 10,000 hours theory, then I’m sure that vision is the driving force behind the success of anyone willing enough to put in those hours. If you can believe it & you can see it, well then it’s already your to claim, isn’t it?!

In the Proverbs 23:7, it says “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he”. That verse has influenced me since childhood & drives my actions constantly. In football, t pushed me to study my playbook so I knew it like the back of my hand. It urged me to surround myself around the best & brightest coaches & players I could be around. That same mentality of surrounding myself with success has only translated to the business world and the rest of my life.

Every day, I find new content in the form of blogs, newsletters and YouTube for inspiration. One day, I came across a speech from Steve Harvey and in the speech he said:

“You have not because you ASK not.”

That struck a chord with me while I sat watching in my living room because for so long I’ve viewed myself as the underdog. I have always believed in the mentality that “If it is to be, it is UP TO ME”, but at the end of 2018, learned a lesson in flexibility & putting trust in others.

Happy New Years from #TeamBrackett!

An opportunity came to me, with an important stipulation. If it was not for speaking up and connect with the right people, the deal would not have come to fruition. In other words, I had to build relationships with people I would not typically have connected aside from the business realm.

As entrepreneurs & as people, we can get caught up in our own pride and interests when it comes to making connections. The opportunity to connect with others taught me a lesson in valuing the perspectives, needs and interests of others. a CEO group When you do that, the reward comes back tenfold.

I’m also blessed to be in a CEO group where we discuss challenges that we face. We are able to encourage one another and offer solutions to business problems we have in common. A goal of mine is to take full advantage of my “network of social capital” as I like to call it. 2018, I realized to get to where I want to go as a CEO, as a Businessman, as a Father, it will take a village. Uplift is the nature of the game from here on out.

My Oath

I’m leaving my ego in 2018.
I’m opening my mouth.
I’m asking questions.
I won’t afraid to be wrong (unless it hurts the bottom line 😬).
I’m asking for help.

As 2019 approaches also I realize that “to ask” requires one “to answer the call” when others reach out. This year is about keeping an abundance mindset. The goal is “For us all to get on.”

This is GB and I hope we all make it… Happy New Year!
